Record your first auto take

  1. Frame your shot. Open VlogMatic and allow camera access. Rest your phone or tablet on a steady support and choose a front or rear camera.
  2. Choose a capture rule. Under the preview, choose Motion, Face, Either or Both. Either is a useful starting point: a visible face or movement can start recording.
  3. Choose your audio. Allow microphone access if you want sound, and use the microphone control to turn it on or off. You can record silent video without microphone permission.
  4. Tap Start auto take. VlogMatic watches the scene. When your rule matches, it records. When activity stops, it records for the selected pause delay, then pauses. New activity resumes the same take.
  5. Finish and save. Tap Finish & save take. Open Clips to play your video, jump between moments, or share the original file.

One auto take, one video. Recorded moments are saved together. You don’t need to assemble a separate file for every start and pause.

Which recording rule should I use?

Motion: watch for movement

Choose Motion for hands working at a desk, cooking, drawing or building. Keep the phone steady: moving the camera can look like movement in the scene. Changing shadows or activity in the background can also trigger recording.

Face: stay with the speaker

Choose Face when you want to record while a face is visible. A stationary face keeps recording active. This is face detection, which checks for the presence of a face; it does not identify who the person is.

Either: a face or movement

Choose Either for a mix of talking and making. A face, movement, or both can keep recording active. This rule is useful when you move between showing your work and speaking to the camera.

Both: a face and movement

Choose Both when you want the two conditions to match at the same time. If the face leaves the frame or movement stops, the pause countdown begins.

Give the moment room to breathe

In Settings, choose a pause delay of 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 30 seconds or 1 minute. Recording continues for that long after your chosen rule stops matching. New activity restarts the delay.

A short delay cuts out more idle time. A longer delay keeps more of the space around each action, which can help when your work includes small pauses. Motion sensitivity is also adjustable.

Make an automatic timelapse

Open the recording-format controls, choose Timelapse in the frame-rate picker, then set the recording rate and playback rate. Timelapse uses your chosen motion or face rule and pause delay, and records without audio.

At one captured frame per second and 30 frames per second playback, one hour of captured activity becomes about two minutes of video. Idle gaps are excluded, so an hour on the clock may produce a shorter video if the camera spends some of that time paused.

Try it for a painting, a craft project or a longer build. Keep your camera and lighting as steady as practical for a more consistent result.

Choose the format your camera supports

Resolution, frame rate, codec, colour and bitrate are set for each camera. VlogMatic offers the combinations supported by that camera and device. Features such as 4K, high frame rates, HEVC or HDR are not available on every phone.

H.264 is useful for broad compatibility. HEVC / H.265 can compress video more efficiently. Auto bitrate is the recommended starting point; the controls also show an estimated storage use.

Find and share your video

On Android, completed recordings appear in Clips and are saved to Movies/VlogMatic, where your gallery can find them. VlogMatic adds moment markers as it records. Use its player’s previous and next controls to jump between captured moments.

Sharing sends the original video to the app or destination you choose. Other players can play the video but may ignore the moment markers. Gallery and cloud backup services you enable follow their own policies.

A few things to know before a long take

  • Keep the phone steady for motion detection, and try your chosen rule with a short take first.
  • Small faces, low light or a covered face can make face detection less reliable.
  • Detection is sampled and is not a frame-perfect editing system. There is no pre-roll buffer to recover activity before recording starts.
  • Check your battery and available storage before a long session. Review the low-battery and low-storage stop settings.
  • On a supported foldable phone, placing it half-open can give you a hands-free setup with the preview above the fold and controls below.
